About Plover Weather
Local observations. A view of the sky. A connection to the community. Serving Plover, Stevens Point, and Central Wisconsin since 2004.
Local Weather, Personally Maintained
Plover Weather is an independently operated weather station owned and maintained by Timothy A. Bubla in Plover, Wisconsin. What began as a local weather observation station has grown into a resource for neighbors, visitors, and anyone interested in Central Wisconsin weather.
The station measures conditions right here in Plover. The website brings those observations together with forecasts, National Weather Service alerts, radar, climate records, and sky camera views to help you see what is happening now and what may be ahead.
Local Observations Shared Beyond Plover
Plover Weather voluntarily supplies hourly weather data reports and inclement-weather reports to the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Green Bay, Wisconsin, WSAW-TV 7, WAOW-TV 9, WeatherForYou.com, and Weather Undergound.com . These reports share conditions observed here in Plover with forecasters and local television weather teams.
Our station call signs are PLOW3, KWIPLOVE1, CO617, WI-PT-23 and CW0617
The station also participates in CoCoRaHS—the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network—contributing local precipitation observations.
Meet Tim Bubla
Owner & Operator · Plover Weather
Behind the readings and camera views is the hands-on work of keeping a local weather station running. Tim maintains the instruments, cameras, computers, and website that bring Plover Weather to the community.
Tim served 17 years in the U.S. Navy and Navy Selected Reserve (SELRES), with shipboard navigation duties that included preparing hourly weather synopses. That experience helped shape his attention to changing weather conditions and his commitment to accurate local observations.
Tim is a certified SKYWARN storm spotter. Along with maintaining the station and its weather records, he helps support severe-weather monitoring by reporting observed conditions to the National Weather Service.
The History of Plover Weather
How We Observe the Weather
The station uses a Davis Vantage Pro2 system with Weather Display software, supported by additional instruments for precipitation, soil temperature, frost, and snow observations.
Air, Wind & Sunshine
Temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction, UV, and solar radiation measurements provide a detailed picture of local conditions.
Rain & Snow
Electronic and manual precipitation gauges, a heated rain gauge, snow boards, and snow-depth measurements help document precipitation through the seasons.
Below the Surface
Soil temperature probes measure at 2, 4, 8, 20, 40, and 60 inches below sod level. A 60-inch frost tube helps monitor how deeply the ground has frozen.
A View in Every Direction
Four sky cameras mounted on a 65-foot tower provide north, south, east, and west views of the skies over Plover.
Our Community & Website
Plover is in Portage County, alongside Stevens Point in Central Wisconsin. Local observations help show how conditions change here—from summer rainfall to winter snow and spring thaw.
The weather readings identified as station observations come from instruments at Plover Weather. Forecasts, alerts, radar, and other regional information come from the outside services identified on their respective pages.
